Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg

The hustle and bustle of the holidays have moved out and the spring frenzy the Smokies has yet to begin when March rolls in. This makes it one of the best times to visit Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains! Here’s a list of 5 of the best things to do when visiting during the month of March

Wildlife Life and Wildflowers

spring wildflowers in the smoky mountainsAs March kicks off in the Smokies you can find the best of both worlds when it comes to winter and spring. Many times in the higher elevations you can experience a bit of snow but in the lower elevations you’ll find plenty of early spring wildflowers beginning to bloom! Trails like Porters Creek, Chestnut Top, Little River Trail and others are perfect for taking a hike and enjoying the beauty of life returning to the hills. Wildlife begins to also emerge on warmer days. Laurel Creek Road that allows vehicle access Cades Cove is also scheduled to reopen March 1, 2020. We know that many of you missed out on exploring the cove during the winter closure so it’s a perfect excuse to come back and enjoy the heart of the Smoky Mountains!

Sleep with the Sharks

On March 7th and March 28th one of America’s favorite aquariums will be offering a Sleep with the Sharks opportunity to families that don’t meet the usual group requirements. The Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is by far one of the top attractions in town and an excellent place to visit and play at any time that you’re visiting. However, this unique experience is one that you won’t want to miss!

Dollywood

Tennessee’s top theme park kicks off their season March 14th and is certainly a great reason to visit the Smokies during the month of March! From rides to shows and everything in between, Dollywood offers plenty of fun for the entire family!

Chase Waterfalls

After the winter snow has melted and the rains have moved through, you’ll find the Smokies filled with waterfalls! Guests visiting during the summer months often miss out on seeing many of the roadside waterfalls and cascades that flow beautifully on wet weather days! The biodiversity and beauty that is found in the southern Appalachians exists because of the rainfall that we receive throughout the year, but the spring months bring a little extra magic to the mountains!

Breakfast and Wine
