We’re an Appalachian Trail Museum Disguised as a Hotel!
Yes, The Appy Lodge is definitely a hotel but we’re much more than just a place to stay while you’re in the Smokies! When the idea of our hotel first came to our owner, he knew that he wanted it to be a place that would bring the mountains into Gatlinburg and a place that would hopefully inspire guests to fall in love with the great outdoors. He decided to focus on the Appalachian Trail, one of America’s most loved footpaths. A trail that also crosses through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in the country. So, he reached out to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and offered up the idea of a partnership that would not only help to create the hotel into what he envisioned it to be but a partnership that would also benefit the ATC and the trail in the Smokies. Today when you enter The Appy Lodge you’ll immediately notice that it isn’t your average cookie cutter hotel. Instead the walls are filled with exhibits that includes images and facts from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, photographs from the trail, handmade trail sign replicas, paintings by local artists and much more! We would love for you to stay with us when you’re vacationing in the Smokies, but even if you don’t stay, take a minute to stop and look around!
We Have a Shelter for Every Guest!
When planning all of the details of the hotel, nothing was missed! Every room is even named after a shelter that you would find on the Appalachian Trail and they’re numbered in the same order that they would be in if you were a thru-hiker hiking from Georgia to Maine. Our guest rooms are much different than the shelters though! We have rustic but luxurious decor, hardwood floors, custom hickory furniture, 43 inch flat screen televisions, a mini-fridge, microwave and much more in each room! If you’re looking for an extra roomy and comfortable “shelter” check out Our King Suites! You won’t have to worry about cooking breakfast before you hit the trail, because we provide breakfast to guests daily as well as afternoon cookies. However, we can’t promise that you won’t spot a bear roaming around outside. If you do, just remember to love them but leave them wild.
Same Property, Completely New Experience!
If you’ve been vacationing in Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains for years or even decades then you may remember that our hotel was once a Fairfield Inn by Marriott. However after a $5 million renovation that was completed in the autumn of 2018, our hotel is completely different and more beautiful than ever before! We know that many love Marriott hotels but we also hope that you’ll take a chance on experiencing The Appy Lodge. If you do, we know that you’ll understand why the new journey of being an Appalachian Trail themed hotel means so much to so many. Our owner, staff, guests and many locals all have a deep passion for bringing the beauty of the mountains into Gatlinburg and the magic of the Appalachian Trail to those that haven’t experienced it yet and to those that have but just can’t get enough of the trail. The new experience at our property includes sitting with friends around our fire pits, supporting the trail through purchases in our gift shop, being inspired by local artists and being in a place that feels like home. We wanted the hotel to be much more than just a place to stay, we wanted it to be an experience that is driven by a purpose and a love of the outdoors.
