The Appalachian Lodge
downtown Gatlinburg hotel

Our downtown Gatlinburg hotel, The Appy Lodge, is one of the most unique places that you can stay in the Smokies. Our hotel stands on the foundation of one of America’s most treasured gems, The Appalachian Trail. Within the walls of The Appy, you will find displays that pay homage to the dreamers that first envisioned a footpath for the people. A trail that would run from Georgia, through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and then north to Maine. Throughout our halls are photographs from the trail and stories of those that have hiked among the hills and valleys. Our hope is that during your stay with us, you too will be inspired to hike your own hike. We hope that during your time with us that you will find an unwavering love and appreciation for the Appalachians.

We have put together 5 things about our downtown Gatlinburg hotel that we are certain you will love!

1. The Appalachian Trail Theme and Museum

Within every corner of our downtown Gatlinburg hotel are features that work together to tell the story of the Appalachian Trail and its history. The hallways are filled with photographs from the trail, displays provided by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and fun facts. When you check into your room, you’ll also be checking into a shelter from the AT. Every guest room is labeled with the name of the shelter, the elevation, and its location. In the lobby, you’ll find books about the trail to browse through and after taking a dip in the pool, you can tell friends that you went for a swim in Vermont’s Stratton Pond. If you’re looking for a cozy place to stay and also to learn about one of the longest hiking trails in the world, come visit with us.

2. Amenities at The Appy Lodge

Hotel amenities at The AppyThe many amenities at our downtown Gatlinburg hotel are one of the many reasons that our guests enjoy their stay with us. We offer free parking as well as a trolley stop on our property. Guests can choose between many rooms, including options with fireplaces and balconies. Our King Suite includes a cozy living area with plenty of room to relax. We have an indoor pool as well as an outdoor pool with a fantastic slide. Within the hotel, you will also find walk-in showers, in-room microwaves and refrigerators, a fitness room, gift shop, and a complimentary continental breakfast is served each morning.

3. Our Downtown Gatlinburg Hotel Is Local

Our Gatlinburg hotel was previously a Marriott franchise; however, we have stepped away from the chain and now take great pride in being 100% local. In September of 2018, we completed a $5 million renovation of our property. If you stayed at our location in the past, you won’t recognize us now! Stay with us again to get a firsthand look at all of the beautiful changes that we have made. Our 101 room lodge is now filled with old hickory furniture, custom decor, paintings and photography by local artists. The best part? We’ll be continuing our growth and transformation. We would love for you to join us and to be a part of the journey!

4. Art in the Appalachians

One feature of our hotel that makes us very special is our love and support for local art. Art has always been a significant part of Appalachia culture and in the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg. At The Appy, you will find paintings by local artist Robert Tino as well as others. Throughout the hotel, there are custom made trail sign replicas handmade by an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker. Photographs in the lobby, hallways, and rooms were taken by local artists and those that have a deep love for the trail and the mountains. Passion and love have been poured into every piece of art that you will encounter during your stay and we believe that you will feel it upon seeing each piece.

5. Our Gatlinburg Hotel is in a Great Location
