Overlook at Anakeesta in Gatlinburg

Every vacation should include stunning views of the Smoky Mountains, BBQ, BeaverTails, YeeHaw Brewing, a walk among the butterflies, a zipline trip through the tree canopy and a friendly game of cornhole. Where can you find a place with all of that and more? At Anakeesta in Gatlinburg! The entry to this “magical theme park in the mountains” is located in downtown Gatlinburg, but the fun awaits at the top of Anakeesta Mountain in the Smokies. We’ve put together 7 tips for visiting Anakeesta as well as a few exciting plans that they have for this year!

Tip #1: Buy your tickets online. If you arrive at the entrance for Anakeesta and the ticket line is long, you’ll see the short line that welcomes online vouchers and wish that you had purchased yours beforehand. However, keep in mind that pre-purchased tickets are non-refundable. Tickets are good for one calendar year from the date of purchase, but no refunds are available.

Anakeesta in GatlinburgTip #2: Make the most of your 1-Day ticket! Tickets include unlimited all day access. If you’re staying with us at The Appy, you’ll be just minutes away from Anakeesta. Visit early and enjoy the activities, head back to the hotel for a midday rest and then take another ride back to the top for dinner and spend the evening at one of the best spots in town for watching the sunset!

Tip #3: Currently the only way to access Anakeesta is by the Chondola and riding the chairlift or Gondola to the top. This important to share with all members of your party before you arrive so that they know what to expect. The chairlift is open air and seats 4 people, the Gondola is enclosed and seats 6. The ride to the top is approximately 14 minutes long and offers incredible views of the mountains! Many areas at the top are wheelchair accessible, the Gondola is 32″ wide and 49″ deep and can be used for transporting a wheelchair to the top. The park also offers wheelchairs to use free of charge once you’re at the top of the mountain.

Tip #4: The weather in the Smokies can be very unpredictable but the staff at Anakeesta monitor the weather closely and in the event that they feel the situation may be unsafe for guests, they will suspend operations. Check their website for full details on their weather policy and be sure to check the forecast on the day of your visit to the park.

dueling zipline at AnakeestaTip #5: Ziplining through the canopy of beautiful trees on Anakeesta is one of their most popular activities. Reservations for the breathtakingly stunning and heart racing experience are not required – but they are recommended. You can check availability by calling Anakeesta at 865-325-2400 EXT 310.

Tip #6: Experience Anakeesta on a budget. It is true that once at the top, some activities do cost extra. However, there are also plenty of ways to enjoy your time without spending more than you can afford or want to spend. Take a walk along the Canopy Walk, take advantage of the free crafts for kids, play one of the outdoor games that are available, soak up the views from the swings and rockers, let the kiddos play in the Treehouse Village Playground, fill up your camera or phone with family photos and read over the plaques for the Memorial Forest Walk.

Tip #7: Some attractions and activities do have height, weight and age restrictions. Know before you go. Check the park’s websites for detailed restrictions for the activities that you want to do during your time on the mountain.
